Sillian in winter

In the winter months you should at all costs go skiing on the perfectly prepared slopes of our local mountain, the Thurntaler. 22,4 kilometers of perfectly prepared ski trails on sunny hillsides between 1100 and 2400 meters over sea level can be explored there. Since Sillian is located near the border to Italy, you can also reach the ski resort “Helm” in a few minutes by car.

If you like cross-country skiing Sillian is the right place for you. Europe’s largest cross-country ski run (Dolomiti Nordic Ski, 1.300 km trails) runs directly through Sillian. Moreover, you can find marvelous cross-country ski runs in the well-known biathlon village Obertilliach. If you prefer smaller trails, you can go cross-country skiing in Innervillgraten, where the trails are surrounded by breathtaking nature.

The toboggan runs around Sillian are very recommendable. The run “Leckfeld” can be reached in a 3 hour walk by foot. Alternatively also a taxi is available. At the top the “Leckfeldalm” with traditional cuisine awaits you before you can enjoy the 7 kilometer long trail down to the village.

The “Winterwichtelland” (a park for children, where they can learn how to ski or take part in different snow-activities) provides lots of fun for the youngest. Whether children want to learn skiing or simply have fun in the snow, in the “Wichtelland” they’ll never be bored.​ A 70 meters long magic carpet transports little snow princes and princesses to a real paradise for children with a ski carousel, a training slope and a snow tubing run. Personal assistance makes this the perfect adventure for the whole family.

Once a week a snow happening takes place where a snowdisco, rafting and many other activities guarantee your children’s’ happiness. In the center of the village the popular “Wichtel ice rink” is located. You can borrow ice skates in the tourism office.
